Associates across Ascension Wisconsin are making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients, families and fellow colleagues through funding from Mission Possible associate grants.

Mission Possible grants give associates an opportunity to apply for funding in support of initiatives that enhance patient experience or improves efficiency in the work environment.

The projects described below show a glimpse of what is possible through associate grants.

Resources for the tiniest patients at Ascension All Saints

Babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) need extra love and care to help them grow big and strong. At Ascension All Saints, a new associate-led project is making that possible. New mothers can now safely transport milk to the NICU thanks to new breast milk totes recently funded by Mission Possible grants. The team also purchased cozy car seat covers, so when it’s time to go home, each baby is protected from the elements and ready for the next chapter of their lives.

Innovative healing at the Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Regional Burn Center

Recovering from burns can be a long and challenging process, one that often calls for creativity, innovation and the latest developments in care. At the Burn Center, a new tool is helping make advanced care possible: a 3D printer. This state-of-the-art technology allows our care team to create customized tools and devices specifically designed to support each patient’s healing process.

Community education at Ascension Franklin and St. Francis

When a cardiac arrest or severe bleeding emergency strikes, every heartbeat and every second matters. Thanks to newly funded ‘stop the bleed’ kits and a hands-only CPR training kit, the Ascension Franklin and St. Francis pre-hospital medicine teams are bringing lifesaving skills and training directly to our communities. These resources mean more neighbors, friends and loved ones will be prepared to act quickly — and confidently — when it matters most.

Creative Connections at the Family Health Center

Creative activities can do wonders for the heart, mind and spirit — especially when it includes bringing people together. At the Family Health Center in Franklin, the Ascension Wisconsin Family Medicine Residency program is introducing a new initiative designed to focus on the well-being of older adults. Through art therapy, wellness workshops and community exercise classes, participants can connect, create and stay active — all while reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation.

A sense of comfort for behavioral health patients at Ascension Mercy

Facing a behavioral health crisis can be an overwhelming and vulnerable time. At Ascension Mercy, patients in the behavioral health unit are now receiving an extra layer of comfort and care — new clothing to wear during their stay and to take home if needed. Each patient is also given a journal, offering personal space to reflect, process and continue their healing journey after leaving the hospital.

Tranquility during uncertainty at Ascension St. Elizabeth

When an individual faces the possibility of breast cancer, feelings of uncertainty, worry and fear may arise. At Ascension St. Elizabeth, a small but meaningful change is helping bring comfort during this difficult time. In the two ultrasound rooms — where patients may receive an ultrasound, ultrasound biopsy or stereotactic biopsy — new tranquility ceiling tiles now offer a gentle escape. Featuring soothing images of trees, flowers and bright blue skies, these tiles give patients something peaceful to focus on, offering a moment of calm and hope during a difficult time.
